I can feel a terrible joke coming on. ‘Let’s get this Father’s Day off to a flying start…’ There you go, it’s over! This week I’m going to take a look at some of the great flying experiences on offer, all you have to do is work out which one is best for Dad! Let’s start nice and safely. On the ground…Flight SimulatorWhat: Here your dad will get a full in a real Boeing 727 cockpit, the only difference is he won’t be charged with getting hundreds of holiday makers safely to Spain and back. The experience includes assistance from a co-pilot who will make sure dad gets the most from his time in the air.Where: Bournemouth, (South East)How much: £145Find out more: Flight Simulator
War BirdsWhat: Delta Aviation are giving you the chance to be flown (and even take the controls of) two WW2 American fighter planes. There’s a choice between the T-6 Warbird and the North American P51D Mustang (Rolls-Royce “Merlin” engined), both classic American aircraft. Flights start at £299.99 for 20mins, up to £799.99 for 60mins, in either aircraft. Most people chose the ‘best seller’ 30 minutes lesson at £399.99. Whatever you decide to do, visit the website because there is a wealth of information on both planes.Where: Rochester (Kent), Sywell (Northampton)How much: From £299.99 to £799.99Find out more: War Birds
Aerobatic Flying ExperiencesWhat: I think I could have done with a full week to do the aerobatic experiences justice, but here’s a short round up. Introduction to Aerobatics is a 25 minute flight where the instructor will preform an aerobatic sequence in either a Bulldog or Chipmunk military training plane. Then it’s your turn, take the controls and become a Red Arrows pilot! (Well almost). Once you have mastered this first step it’s time to jump into the deep end with the “Ultimate top Gun Experience”. 40 minutes flying in a ‘Extra 300′ aircraft you will experience formation take-off, close formation maneuverers and then get to try some aerobatics of your own, finish off with the sport of kings aerial tailchasing. Not for the faint hearted.Where: Barton(Manchester) - CAP10, Sibson (Cambridgeshire) - Pitts, Sywell (Northamptonshire) - CAP10, Blackpool (Lancashire) - Slingsby Firefly, Eaglescott (Devon) - Chipmunk, Gloucester (Gloucestershire) - Slingsby Firefly, Shoreham (West Sussex) - Chipmunk, Kemble (Gloucestershire), Shoreham (West Sussex), Thruxton (Hampshire). How much: From £139 to £599Find out more: Aerobatic Flying
…and relaxWhat: So, your dad has spend his morning flying upside down in a bulldog and it’s all got too much. Time to chill out, relax and enjoy the highlife. You need a hot air balloon. In fact, I think you and you dad should both go.Where: UK WideHow much: £179.00 (for one) or £349.00 (for two)Find out more: Balloon Flight Explorer
